Art of Faiths - Religions of the World: Tolerance and Diversity (Exhibit)
Time: 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Location: Waterworks Visual Arts Center
Expressing religious beliefs through art has been evident throughout mankind from Paleolithic cave art to architectural masterpieces of cathedrals, mosques, & temples around the world. Through an assemblage of photographs, paintings, & mixed media works, artists express their personal relationships to their faiths. Syed Ahmad creates contemplative works in glass inspired by ancient Islamic calligraphy. Quilted paintings of personal faith define Alice Levinson’s art, using biblical text & Hebrew poetry. Robert Radin features poignant photographs showcasing cultures around the world, cast in faith. Photographer Shireen Alborno tears down the stereotype attached to her religion & lifestyle as a Muslim. G. Carol Bomer juxtaposes text & image to create connections that are not predictable. Spirituality is an important part of the creative journey of Robert Crum. Professed to the Order of Secular Franciscans, spirituality is evident in Betti Pettinati-Longinotti’s inspired work.
