10 Minute Play Contest (Performing Arts)
Time: 12:00 AM to 11:55 PM
Location: Winston-Salem

Contest ends Jan. 31, 2013. Winning plays will be performed at the annual Staged Reading on April 27. Entries will be judged by Michael Huie, Outreach and Education Director of the N.C. Christmas Cantata (Holiday Event)
Location: Fairview Moravian Church

The combined choirs of Fairview Moravian Church in Winston-Salem and Liberty and Concord United Methodist Churches in Mocksville will present the Christmas cantata, Journey of Promises by Joseph Martin, on Sunday, December 9th. The cantata will be presented at 3:30PM at Fairview Moravian Church (6550 Silas Creek Pkwy.) and at 7:00PM at Liberty United Methodist Church (141 Liberty Circle, Mocksville). The cantata will be accompanied by an orchestra made up mostly of students from UNC School of the Arts. Please call 768-5629 for more information.

Art of Faiths - Religions of the World: Tolerance and Diversity (Exhibit)
Time: 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Location: Waterworks Visual Arts Center

Expressing religious beliefs through art has been evident throughout mankind from Paleolithic cave art to architectural masterpieces of cathedrals, mosques, & temples around the world. Through an assemblage of photographs, paintings, & mixed media works, artists express their personal relationships to their faiths. Syed Ahmad creates contemplative works in glass inspired by ancient Islamic calligraphy. Quilted paintings of personal faith define Alice Levinson’s art, using biblical text & Hebrew poetry. Robert Radin features poignant photographs showcasing cultures around the world, cast in faith. Photographer Shireen Alborno tears down the stereotype attached to her religion & lifestyle as a Muslim. G. Carol Bomer juxtaposes text & image to create connections that are not predictable. Spirituality is an important part of the creative journey of Robert Crum. Professed to the Order of Secular Franciscans, spirituality is evident in Betti Pettinati-Longinotti’s inspired work.

Dias de los Muertos (Days of the Dead) (Exhibit)
Time: 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM
Location: Museum of Anthropology, Wake Forest University

MOA’s annual exhibit features a traditional Mexican ofrenda: a home altar with sugar skulls, colorful tissue paper cutouts, food and beverage offerings, marigolds, and photos of deceased relatives to honor the dead. A children’s ofrenda and photographs illustrating different aspects of the celebration are also on display. This exhibit features text in English and Spanish. Admission is free. Open Tuesday to Saturday.

Weaving along the Silk Road: Amazing Asian Saddle Rugs (Exhibit)
Time: 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM
Location: Museum of Anthropology, Wake Forest University

This new long-term exhibit examines the creation, function, and cultural importance of saddle rugs across Central Asia. It features colorfully woven horse covers and saddle covers, as well as elaborately decorated saddles from an area spanning the ancient Silk Road from China to Constantinople (Istanbul). Open Tuesday to Saturday.

Location: The Enrichment Center

The Enrichment Center's annual holiday program combines elements of contemporary dance, music, visual art, kinetic sculpture, and video installation with an interactive, guided tour that makes the art come to life. The performance features the Enrichment Center Performance Company, Enrichment Center Percussion Ensemble, the Artists of Gateway Studios, staff members, and dancers from UNCSA. A reception will be hosted by the Center's cooking class and PFO. Donations of canned food accepted for Sunnyside Ministry.
