Winston-Salem Writers anthology contest (Literature)

Feb. 1 through March 31, Winston-Salem Writers will accept entries for its 3rd annual anthology contest. First, second and third place winners in each category will be published in the 2013 Anthology, Taking Flight. Judges are Terri Kirby Erickson, poetry; Curtis Smith, flash fiction; Susan Woodring, short story; and Dr. James Etim, memoir, essay, and creative nonfiction. Fee for each work submitted is $10 non-members or $5 members. For complete rules, see website.

Mount Tabor High School Hall of Fame NominationsDo you know of someone who has made significant contributions to Mount Tabor High School? Nominations for the Mount Tabor High School Hall of Fame are due by April 1, 2013 to Ed Weiss, principal of Mount Tabor. The Parent – Teacher – Student Association and Administration of Mount Tabor High School established the Spartan Hall of Fame to recognize and honor individuals whose outstanding contributions have enriched the academic, artistic, and athletic programs and brought honor to the school through their leadership, character, achievement, and service. The PAAD Study : Physical Activity and Alzheimer's Disease (Health/Exercise)

UNCG is offering a free 8-month exercise program for people who qualify to take part in aresearch study. Interested individuals must be between 50-65 years of age and have a family history ofAlzheimer’s disease. Pine Needle Sale (Fund Raising Event)

Hopewell UMC will be selling Pine Needles again this year! They will beavailable at the church beginning Saturday, March 23. Community Yard Sale (School Event)

The schools of Kennedy Campus (Carter High, Kennedy High, and the Career Center) are hosting a community yard sale. Tables are available for $10. There will be live music and food available as well. March Pine Needle Sale (Fund Raising Event)

Bring your personal and confidential information to be shredded by the mobile truck, "THE BLAST." Monetary donations will be accepted. Sponsored by Circle 5 of the United methodist Women to benefit food programs serving children in Forsyth County.

Celebrating 50 Years of the Museum of Anthropology (Exhibit)

As the MOA commemorates its 50th year, this student-curated retrospective exhibit showcases the Museum’s history through a detailed timeline featuring photographs from the institutional archives and artifacts from around the world. Open Tuesday to Saturday. Admission is free.
This Beautiful World (Exhibit)
Time: 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM
Location: Museum of Anthropology, Wake Forest University
This touring exhibit features the work of photographer and world traveler Robert Radin. It contains images of the people and landscapes of six continents, a presentation of Radin’s life work selected from more than 6,000 photos. Open Tuesday to Saturday. Admission is free.
Chinese Ceramics from the Changsha Kilns (Exhibit)
Time: 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM
Location: Museum of Anthropology, Wake Forest University
MOA’s new permanent exhibit provides an overview of the ceramics produced by families at the Changsha Kilns during the Tang Dynasty more than one thousand years ago. The exhibit puts Tang ceramics into their historical, geographic, and cultural context. The Tang Dynasty was a time of peace, prosperity, and acceptance in China, during which Changsha ceramics and other goods were traded to reach as far away as western Asia and Africa. The exhibit features more than 100 spectacular ceramic objects from the MOA’s Lam Collection. Open Tuesday to Saturday. Admission is free.
MOA Turns 50! A Birthday Party & Family Day (Festival)

Free Tennis Lessons for Kids (Community Event)

Location: Parkland High School
The Kimiberly Park Tennis Club offers free tennis lessons to kids ages 5 to 18. Practices are held at the Parkland High School tennis courts each Saturday at 3pm This is a year long program and winter practices are held at the Wake Forest University Indoor Tennis Center. BOW THE KNEE EASTER PRESENTATION (Church Community Event)

Triad Baptist Church of Kernersville invites you to attend the 2013 Easter Presentation of the dramatic musical, “Bow the Knee.” Witness the story of a Roman Centurion, committed to Caesar but after his encounters with Jesus becomes conflicted with his loyalties. This is the story of one man and one choice. Will he remain loyal to the crown of Caesar or will he follow the cross of Jesus? “Bow the Knee” will be presented on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights, March 22-24, at 7:00pm. Admission is free (non-ticketed event) and a nursery will be provided for children up through 3 years of age.
