All proceeds will go to support our H2H Hunger Ministry which works in conjunction with 2nd Harvest Foodbank to provide backpacks full of food to local school-aged children over the weekend. The Greensboro Historical Museum is honored to present an exhibition from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C. "Fighting the Fires of Hate: America and the Nazi Book Burnings." The exhibition provides a vivid look at the first steps the Nazis took to suppress freedom of expression, and the strong response that occurred in the United States both immediately and in the years thereafter.

A new display at the Greensboro Historical Museum illustrates that there have been at least eighteen U.S. President's who have stopped in the Gate City. Come visit the lobby display, our preview to the full display that will be on view on August 23, 2012. As always, all exhibitions at the museum are free for visitors.

With a Discerning Eye: Realism to Abstraction (Exhibit)

Location: Waterworks Visual Arts Center

All art is an abstraction derived from something real. The Summer Exhibition explores the boundaries between the artist’s use of elements of design to express thoughts. Five regional artists challenge the viewer to look beyond the obvious & deepen their understanding of the realism in abstraction & the abstraction in realism. Scott Burdick captures the humanity of diverse cultures in his work. Cassandra Gillens’ paintings feature silhouette figures saturated with vivid colors & simplified forms. Susan Lyon’s work depicts her true love of painting the figure. Terry Thirion intrigues the viewer & invites them to discover the little surprises in each piece represented in bold colors, sudden curves, or random marks. Felicia van Bork creates artwork that explores origin & evolution of consciousness using exquisite color & texture.

Recent Additions to the Collection (Exhibit)

Location: Museum of Anthropology, Wake Forest University

The Museum of Anthropology showcases recent donations to its permanent collection with this exhibit featuring archaeological and ethnographic artifacts from cultures around the world. Highlights include intricately decorated personal adornment from Papua New Guinea, Tang Dynasty ceramics from China, and saddle rugs from the Salgo Collection. Admission is free. Open Tuesday-Saturday, 10:00am-4:30pm.

Let's Talk Real Estate! (Community Event)

Location: High Point Public Library

High Point Public Library, Saturday January 14th, 1p-3p. We will conduct a monthly booth every second Saturday of each month. We'll talk about general real estate and touch on various topics including first-time homebuying, move-up homebuying, expenses to expect, and financing, among others.

Free Tennis Lessons for Kids (Community Event)

Location: Parkland High School

The Kimiberly Park Tennis Club offers free tennis lessons to kids ages 5 to 18. Practices are held at the Parkland High School tennis courts each Saturday at 3pm This is a year long program and winter practices are held at the Wake Forest University Indoor Tennis Center.
