Life After Death: The Day of the Dead in Mexico (Exhibit)
Time: 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM
Location: Museum of Anthropology, Wake Forest University

MOA’s annual exhibit includes new information with sections about the celebration’s history and its unique folk art. The centerpiece is a traditional Mexican ofrenda: a home altar with sugar skulls, colorful tissue paper cutouts, food and beverage offerings, marigolds, and photos of deceased relatives to honor the dead. A children’s ofrenda and a digital photo essay illustrating different aspects of the celebration are also on display. Text is in English and Spanish. Admission is free.

As the MOA commemorates its 50th year, this student-curated retrospective exhibit showcases the Museum’s history through a detailed timeline featuring photographs from the institutional archives and artifacts from around the world. Open Tuesday to Saturday. Admission is free.

Chinese Ceramics from the Changsha Kilns (Exhibit)

MOA’s new permanent exhibit provides an overview of the ceramics produced by families at the Changsha Kilns during the Tang Dynasty more than one thousand years ago. The exhibit puts Tang ceramics into their historical, geographic, and cultural context. The Tang Dynasty was a time of peace, prosperity, and acceptance in China, during which Changsha ceramics and other goods were traded to reach as far away as western Asia and Africa. The exhibit features more than 100 spectacular ceramic objects from the MOA’s Lam Collection. Open Tuesday to Saturday. Admission is free.

Get Well Soon (Exhibit)
Time: 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM
Location: Gateway Gallery at The Enrichment Center

Opening reception for the exhibition "Get Well Soon, showcasing digital photographs and mixed media pieces inspired by sentiments of healing and well wishes featuring the Artists of Gateway Studios with guest artist Jennifer McCormick. The Artists of Gateway Studios will show photographs of flowers and other images that are typically reproduced on "get well" cards. Ms. McCormick, a certified medical illustrator, will show work that reflects on a patient's journey through injury and healing. She builds layers of pastels upon actual, anonymous diagnostic films to express the human experience of spirituality in the face of trauma and illness. Live music will be provided during the reception by the Enrichment Center Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of Aaron Bachelder. Refreshments will be hosted by the Enrichment Center's advanced cooking class. The show will remain on display through November 8. Gallery hours are: 12:30-4:30pm and by appointment.

3rd Annual Hispanic League Zumbathon (Dance)

Hispanic League will be hosting their 3rd annual Zumbathon event September 27th. This fun event will take place at the Village Inn Event Center in Clemmons from 7 pm to 9:30 pm. All proceeds will benefit educational programming for the Hispanic/Latino community in Winston-Salem. You can purchase your tickets online $10 until Wednesday 25th at midnight or at the door $15 the day of the event. Tickets for children 12 and under will be $5 in advance or at the door. Come join Hispanic League for a night of great music and great door prizes!
